Bio

Career history:

I’ve had a progressive career in the IT and InfoSec field. I began my IT career in 1997 at JB Hunt Transportation working in Research and Development. During that time, I learned much about doing computer programming within a corporate environment. Notable accomplishments include:

  • assistance in the maintenance and development of the company’s automated fuel system
  • developing a digital imaging application for insurance claims
  • and assisting in the development of the satellite email system used to enable email communication to the trucks

Just a few months after Y2K, I accepted a job with Wal-Mart’s Information Systems Division. My career accomplishments at Wal-Mart include:

  • assisting in the development and launch of SamsClub.com
  • developing and maintaining the web-based email system utilized at all field locations. This “Outlook Web Access”-like email system was developed from ’scratch’ in-house in order to ensure full compliance with Wal-Mart’s email policies
  • key team member in the NT4 - Active Directory domain migration
  • project lead for Wal-Mart’s Identity Management initiative
  • team lead for Wal-Mart’s Global Directory Infrastructure Team

During the Identity Management project, life began to change a bit — my wife and I had our first child. In an effort to slow down, I accepted a position with Sam’s Club marketing as their Manager of Analytics and Tracking. In this position, I learned much about database marketing and research analytics.

Just over a year later (November ‘04), my family and I decided that it was time for another change. This time I left Wal-Mart and accepted a position as an Application Security Consultant at Alltel Communications (where I am currently employed). Since then, things have changed a bit. My current title is Manager of Enterprise Security Solutions. Alltel has been another great training ground and I am enjoying my employment there. I’ve been involved in several initiatives including:

  • evaluation and selection of a hard-disk encryption solution
  • evaluation, selection, and deployment of an enterprise security portal and collaboration tool
  • subject matter expert for identity management, data privacy, application security
  • selection of enterprise single sign-on (eSSO) tools
  • creation of security awareness materials
  • program manager for Alltel’s Enterprise Security Foundation initiative
