Imagine my surprise when I read the news today and saw that now Senator John McCain is now echoing the futile insanity proposed by those in charge of MySpace. His bill is called the Stop the Online Exploitation of Our Children Act and, if passed, will require sex offenders to register their email and IM addresses.
Hemanshu Nigam, Chief Security Officer for MySpace, is quoted as stating: “The passage of this legislation will be a landmark moment in the history of Internet safety.”
In my opinion, and for the same reasons mentioned in my last post related to MySpace’s efforts, the passage of such a bill (while very well intentioned) will be a landmark moment in the history of futile efforts and delusional thinking.
